Floating in mid-air: "Field" shelf by Dmitry Kozinenko

Optical illusions are part and parcel of the work done by the Ukrainian designer Dmitry Kozinenko. This certainly applies to "Field", a simple shelf structure made up of slender metal rods, bent in places to form ledges on which to place vases, books and other items.
When seen from the front, the objects appear to float in mid-air against the graphical background made up of the vertical lines of the rods. When viewed from the side, however, it becomes apparent that the rods form the occasional ledge. To achieve this effect, the shelf is leant against the wall at an angle. Whatever the case, it is definitely an accomplished eye-catcher.
