Flying by the seat of your pants: British wingback chairs by the HB Group.

There is something simultaneously ridiculous, appealing and practical about the wingback chair. I do not know who or where it was first invented, but the Chesterfield chair, long associated with drawing rooms and gentlemen’s clubs, has come to be seen as quintessentially British, solid, high quality and rather old fashioned.
But the wingback is enjoying a revival. Designers and makers are reinventing the chair to bring a touch of Clubland to contemporary interiors.
One company of British designer makers, The HB Group, is pioneering the reinterpretation of the form, without loosing the essence or the quality of construction. There are several chairs featured here, each of which moves the art along a little, offering new ideas of Britishness.
