“Impronta” is the new sanitary-ware collection by Fuksas Architects: a sink and a shower - two simple white ceramic plates, imprinted by the water running on them.
The internationally renown, Roma-based architects Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas have developed new ceramic bathroom fixtures for the Italian high-end company Catalano. Their sink and shower designs with the title “Impronta”, were presented at last week’s trade fair at Cersaie 2011 in Bologna.
The sink comes as a floating bathroom table: A thin flat white plate that has been formed into the sink and an integrated rest table at one side next to it. Placed below the plate is a thin metal bar to hold towels – allowing to reach for the towel easily instead of fishing for it somewhere at the side.
The shower is conceptualized again as a rectangular white plate - now sunk into the bathroom floor. The plate is formed with a framing edge and a pitch to the drain to prevent the water from overflowing.
Both of Fuksas’ bathroom fixtures - as the name “Impronta” already implies – imprinted: organic lines with thin surfaces of sand are modulated to waves referencing to the water running onto a sandy surface. Bumps and hollows in the waves are applied to direct the flow of the water to the drain.
Fuksas have put very much thought in maximizing the functions while keeping the design of the “Impronta” as simple as possible: A comprised design that focuses on concentrating all uses so that the bathroom can be kept as minimal as the design of its fixtures.
