Since 2006, the German Bridge Design Award has been awarded every two years for outstanding civil-engineering achievements. Allplan is now supporting the award for the third time in succession, this year for the first time as the main sponsor. The patron and sponsor of the German Bridge Design Award is the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI). The Bleichinsel Bridge is a composite construction with an overhead concrete carriageway slab and steel box girders as longitudinal beams. It was designed with Allplan Engineering. According to the jury, the Bleichinsel Bridge is an excellent example of how good design can be realised very economically through careful design and construction. The civil engineering structure blends sensitively into its urban environment and yet has a high recognition value with its modern design language. At the same time, it was built very cost-effectively despite difficult structural conditions, and is expected to have low maintenance costs and a long service life due to its robust construction as an integral structure. At 88 metres long and 24 metres wide, the heavily-used four-lane bridge spans the Alt-Neckar river in Heilbronn and connects the city centre with a new residential area being built in the wake of the Federal Garden Show 2019.
