Glazed Car Wash in Germering

Situated on the outskirts of Munich, the 50-metre-long volume of this car wash is based on a three-bay, steel-frame structure. The two side tracts are glazed all round with frameless vertical cast-glass elements. Facing on to the rear yard is a strip that accommodates technology and ancillary spaces. The eastern tract is a glazed corridor, from where drivers can follow the progress of their vehicles. Additional daylight and natural ventilation are provided by inflated ETFE membrane units over the hall. The two materials can be easily maintained and quickly replaced without having to close down operations for long periods. At night, the hall becomes an illuminated object, effectively displaying its technical interior.
