Gold rush: Disco Canalla takes on a new shine

Photo: Rubén Pérez Bescós
In the Spanish city of Pamplona, Disco Canalla now gleams with a golden shimmer, although its exterior gives hardly any indication of the shine within.
Vaillo+Irigaray Architects have created the interior walls, ceilings and floors in exolated, perforated metal panelling. The new interior design, with its combination of the ‘golden’ cladding and dark flooring, engenders an elegant design language reduced to the essentials. The architects added accents in the form of a long, sleek bar and the light cubes arranged along the golden wall.
The colour gold dominates in the entryway as well: elegant vertical chains create a metal curtain. In contrast, the exterior shell of the Canalla discotheque looks like a simple black box that enrobes its gleaming interior.
