Often considered the “godfather” of rammed earth in Europe, Martin Rauch has completed a series of outstanding public and corporate buildings together with prolific architects in recent years. These include the largest contemporary rammed earth building in Europe, the Ricola warehouse designed by Herzog & de Meuron. With this run of projects coming to a conclusion, once the Basel Ozeanium is completed in 2017, the British “Unstructured” web magazine examines these projects, highlights Rauch's Swiss collaborators, and showcases Rauch himself in an in-depth interview.
Alongside the Ricola warehouse in Laufen, the featured projects are mlzd’s Swiss Ornithological visitor centre in Sempach, CapaulBlumenthal’s Sil Plaz cinema in Ilanz and a loam cupola that Martin Rauch erected as part of a research project together with students at ETH Zurich. The book “Refined Earth” is available in the DETAIL shop.
