The monolithic new structure stands on a hill above the Neustift monastery in a small town that was a preferred health resort in the 19th century. The town is in a traditional wine-growing area; along with a wine cellar devoted primarily to white wine, the monastery operates a private school and conference centre.
The new house beside the original farmhouse grows out of the hill and joins the surrounding landscape. A fold in the long structure forms a sheltered inner courtyard. A generous stairway leads to the rooftop terrace, which offers an impressive panoramic view. On the upper storey, the façade features a cut-out that serves as a loggia. The extensively glazed ground floor below overlooks the open terrace and swimming pool.
The façade of the house is of washed concrete. The obliquely placed part of the house has a rustic natural-stone façade that thematizes the typical small huts found in the vineyards. In contrast to the exterior façade, the interior construction elements made of concrete have a smooth surface. On the other hand the interior walls, to a large extent clad with wood, have a distinct texture that gives the walls a certain ornamental quality.
