Heatherhill Beach House by Norm Architects

Gently integrated into the hilly landscape, offering views of the beach and the Kattegat Sea, the Heatherhill Beach House embodies the essence of Danish architectural tradition, fused with contemporary design. Every detail exudes understated elegance, creating a living space that brings nature to life. It is in harmony with its surroundings, yet has its own distinctive presence.

The traditional Danish summer house is reimagined within an unspoilt landscape. The building's barn-like profile forms a striking contrast to the rolling hills and undulating landscape. Meanwhile, the cedar cladding gives the house a natural-looking facade which will develop a silvery patina over time, blending harmoniously into the colour scheme of the surroundings. The sedum roof subtly anchors the house in the landscape. Clear lines of sight lead through the interior, repeatedly opening up striking perspectives of the outside. A private atrium forms a secluded retreat. The result is architecture with a linear and striking silhouette that creates an exciting interplay, both impressive and calming.

The emphasis on materiality is evident in every interior detail. The lowered living area opens up to the minimalist kitchen with a travertine island. Douglas fir wood, natural brick and travertine run throughout the interior, characterising the house's material concept. Light, tone-on-tone materials give the rooms an open and airy feel. Traditional brick flooring evokes the timeless elegance of 1950s and 1960s Danish residential architecture and establishes a connection with cultural heritage.

Integrated storage solutions help to create order and maintain simplicity, while personal items can be displayed elegantly. Hidden behind a light-coloured, monolithic wall with an integrated fireplace is an inviting lounge area with a smooth dolomite plaster finish. The carefully selected materials at the heart of the design concept appeal to all the senses, transforming the interior into an immersive experience that goes beyond pure aesthetics.
