Holiday Home in Cachagua, Chile

The location for this holiday home - on pine slopes behind the coast north of Santiago de Chile - prompted a design raised above the ground, between the trees. The larger box and the loggia projecting from it aresupported on a solid cross wall that is itself raised above the ground at the front end. A third volume - a three-storey r.c. core - penetrates the larger box. In this section are ancillary rooms in the lower part, a kitchen above and a study on the top floor. A30-m walkway leads to the roof terrace at tree-top level. It emphasises the horizontal line of the design and affords wide views. Adelicate steel staircase leads to the loggia which is both entrance and covered porch.
