Holy Home: Church transformation into a private residence

Photos: Linc Thelen Design, Scrafano Architects
Now offering seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, the majestic building was completely gutted and its interior rebuilt anew. Today only the outer walls, the church tower and the stained-glass windows with their religious motifs recall its ecclesiastical past. The soaring height and exposed roof beams of the main living space make an imposing impression, while a floating steel staircase and furniture custom-designed for the building ensure contemporary flair. The contrast of modernist and traditional is apparent in every corner. The building is probably fairly expensive to heat, particularly in view of the main hall's enormous height, but it is unlikely that this poses much of a problem to the people who commissioned the project.
