House in Bizau, Austria
This single-family house in the Bregenz Forest area is integrated into the fabric of a linear village and reflects the form of the settlement in its elongated shape. Its sober, restrained design, however, stands in striking contrast to the surrounding buildings. A relationship is established to the traditional form of construction of the area through the use of wood.
On the other hand, the deliberate effect of visually separating the house from the ground represents a break with this tradition. The street facades are closed, sheltering the occupants from prying eyes and noise. On the garden side, the concrete wall to the living levelis extended out to form a courtyard, andlarge areas of glazing create a flowing transition to nature.
