House in Chardonne

Overlooking Lake Geneva, this steel-and-glass house hovers boldly above the ground, cantilevering out by more than 20 m from a retaining wall and supported by two slender raking struts. The clients opted for an open, fully glazed house with panoramic views. The radical simplicity of the design is continued internally with a layout based on the grid of the square-section steel structure. The rooms are separated by double walls that house the chimney, a refrigerator and plenty of storage space. Glazed sliding doors allow access from room to room, obviating the need for a corridor. The sanitary spaces are separated from the living areas solely by glass partitions, with curtains providing the necessary privacy.
