House in Coolum, Australia

Audi Urban Future: Project New York, Rendering der Ausstellung in der Openhouse Gallery, New York

Set on a steep slope, with sweeping views to the north from the treetop balconies, the development comprises two pavilions that are linked by a covered walkway. The living and dining areas and kitchen are housed in one pavilion; the sleeping quarters, an office and a remarkable bathroom in the other. The outer slatted wall can be pivoted upwards to open the bathroom to the natural surroundings. There is even an outdoor shower on the decking that is screened only by vegetation. The most striking constructional feature, however, is the use of corrugated steel sheeting as external cladding. In direct sunlight it is shiny and bright. At other times, it reflects the blues, greys, olive-greens of the landscape. The blue and yellow textile balustrade filling forms a colourful foil to this.
