House in Pomponne
Closely integrated into its surroundings, the house comprises three green cubes of different height stepped down the slope of a hill. The elongated layout extends from the staircase at the upper, northern end to the living room with its glazed south-facing front at the lower end. The room-height fixed glazing allows many visual links between indoor and outdoor space. Ventilation is provided by narrow, outward-opening flaps in the facade panels. The steel structure, clad with ribbed sheet-metal wall and ceiling elements, is left exposed in the soffits. A striking contrast is thus established between the plain, bright, reflecting industrial surfaces of the steel and the soft contours of the surrounding vegetation.
