House in Vnà

By developing sustainable tourism with a twist, Vnà, a town in the Lower Engadin in southeast Switzerland, is confidently addressing the problems associated with dwindling population: the entire village becomes a hotel. With a design both mindful of local traditions and contemporary, this gallery-owner’s house introduces an additional facet to the village’s overall concept, which places emphasis on showcasing culture. As in the region’s farmsteads, one enters the building through a large, multi-purpose room on the ground floor. All of the surfaces are in either concrete (on the interior in reinforced concrete, on the exterior in insulating concrete) or plywood panelling (in the living quarters and bedrooms).
