Philips have created a lighting product that will disrupt the market, and change the way we think about lighting. Its new Hue LED lamp is capable of producing practically every colour in the spectrum.
The lamp can be programmed through an iPad or iPhone to do a wide array of things such as switching on or off at particular times or fading to a different colour. With over 90 shades of white alone it is possible to capture every mood imaginable.
The App that controls the light can be downloaded from the App Store in the usual way. It has many ways of setting the light quality including touching on pictures that will instantly reproduce the light quality of the scene shown. You can even use your own photo to set the scene. There are pre programmed settings that the company calls “light recipes” for reading, relaxation, concentration or to energize the mood of the room. Or alternatively you can cook-up your own!
This is just the beginning. As Philips are using open source software in a bid to encourage others to innovate around the product, we can expect things not yet thought of.
