Industrial Building Typology

Is industrial construction just a cheap tin roof over expensive production machinery; or is it a meticulously developed ensemble of high-quality buildings, an expression of the awareness and image the manufacturer has of himself and his company? Industrial building – more than other forms of construction – is dictated by diverse functional needs and a never-ending process of development. That applies just as much to a large power station with its emissions, its cooling-water needs and the enormous space required for fuel, as it does to a plant producing microelectronic equipment under sterilized conditions with a low level of pollution and noise emissions.
