Ingenious folds: Shelving unit by joval

Apart from the chair, the shelving unit is likely the piece of furniture that can show the most diversity of design, yet still offer convincing storage solutions. One example is the Rebar unit, which can be folded flat. Jonas Schroeder, the young creator who made the unit, has already won the Best of Best Interior Innovation Award, justifying his career change from business consultant to furniture designer. Schroeder has always enjoyed tinkering. After a time devoted to business consulting and a subsequent time-out to discover his true calling, he established the joval furniture label. Many of his designs have been successful. But back to the shelving unit: built according to Schroeder’s credo of high quality and sustainability, the unit is made of individual wooden slats from sustainable forestry in either oak or walnut combined with beechwood painted white or black. The ingenious folding system means that the unit can be flattened to a height ranging from four to ten centimetres, depending on the size of the unit. It can be set up and flattened with ease; however, Rebar is remarkably stable. Made entirely in Germany, the unit is produced by hand in industrial series.
