A talking session “Kenchiku Architecture 2011” between young French and Japanese architects took place last weekend in Paris - the topic: Their specific view of architecture.
Six architects from France and Japan were invited to meet for a two-day-session at the Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris to discuss their work, to highlight the awareness of common problems that exist outside local boundaries and to understand their different ways of thinking about the city and public space.
The difference in thinking about architecture and urban planning was related to the term “Architecture” translates “Kenchiku in Japanese - a word that was brought from Europe and then translated into Japanese, however it developed separately with different background and urban condition.
Under the theme “How and where to apply architectural thinking?” this project examined the gap between “Architecture” and “Kenchiku” from the perspective of contemporary architectural scene and is meant to provoke a possible creative collaboration of “Kenchiku Architecture” in the future.
Among the architects and architecture offices invited to the discussion was Atelier RAUM, GRAU, La Ville Rayée, NP2F, Thomas Raynaud (Building Building), Xavier Wrona (Est-ce ainsi), Jo Nagasaka (Schemata Architecture Office), Hiroshi Nakamura (Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP architects), Ryuji Nakamura (ryuji nakamura & associates), Yuko Nagayama (OFFICE YUKO NAGAYAMA), Yasutaka oshimura (Yasutaka Yoshimura Architects) and TNA.
The discussion was commented and moderated by the French architects Djamel Kouche of L’AUC and Jean-Philippe Vassal of Lacaton&Vassal.
The exhibition of the work of the 12 architects will be on display until November 10at the Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture.
