Knitted Laneway in Sydney

The knitted stair in Sydney is part of the Art and About Sydney and for sure something different to be seen in the urban environment. Magda Sayeg calls herself a guerrilla knitter rather than a designer as she knits around objects in the urban environment –lamp posts to busses have been enclosed by her craft already. Now Magda Sayeg the founder of the so-called knit graffiti movement has  created an installation in Sydney: As part of the Art and About Sydney Festival she has knitted the stair of Sussex Lane in various colors to “infuse a warmth and humanity to a landscape of concrete and steel.” The Laneway Art project is part of this year’s Art and About Sydney Festival, curated by Amanda Sharrad and Justine Topfer. The festival shows ideas from artists and curators to inject a fresh dose of “inspiration and magic” to Sydneys urban enviroment. It invites locals and visitors discover seven projects by Australian and International artists and curators by wandering through the city: The idea is to transform the city into a “canvas” and to create a living gallery on the streets, with work that makes locals and visitors "stop, think, laugh or smile."
