Libraries - Structure, Operation, Use

The use and operation of libraries have to adapt to meet the needs of modern standards of exploiting information. In the 19th century, the library as a building type was characterized by an imposing, lofty reading room; and until a few decades ago, the collections of books contained in such structures were symbolized by impressive storage towers. Today, in contrast, the structure of libraries reflects the working relationships and processes that take place within them. In view of the growing number of books and other media, the nature of the storage facilities gains in importance. Increasingly, one seeks to offer users access to fully digitalized stocks.
