Life on the edge of the abyss: Casa Brutale by OPA
Complete solitude and repose away from hectic surroundings are guaranteed in this unusual living concept: Casa Brutale is completely embedded in a cliff high above the Aegean Sea.
Even if visitors were to approach the house, which is still at the conceptualization stage, directly from the surface of the cliff, they might overlook it. Glass, steel and wood dominate here. The roof is a transparent pool of glass that not only functions as a skylight illuminating the house from above, but has a certain cooling effect as well.
More than 50 steps lead from the lowest level up to the living room and kitchen, which has been furnished with a dining table, chairs and bench made of concrete. From there, a narrow steel stairway ascends to the bedroom, where the bedframe is likewise made of concrete.
The name Casa Brutale is somewhat ambiguous, for it refers both to the home’s absolute simplicity and to the brutal slashing of nature required to accommodate it. The design comes from the OPA (Open Platform for Architects).
