Light for the Scrovegni Chapel by iGuzzini

Due to this asymmetry, the wall with the window openings receives considerably less light than the opposite one. The constantly changing lighting conditions made it impossible to adequately view the Giotto frescoes. A new lighting concept now compensates for the inhomogeneous, natural lighting.

Iguzzini’s Palco CoB spotlights and laser blades in Tunable White evenly accentuate the famous colour shades, the gold of the halos and the Giotto blue. After a colour analysis of the frescoes, a spectrum was defined specifically for the concept.

A lighting installation was installed in the chapel in which the artificial light is continuously coordinated with daylight dynamics. Sensors in the chapel permanently measure the variations in the natural light input. Based on this collected data, an algorithm activates a dynamic LED system that continuously adjusts the artificial light quantitatively and qualitatively to the current moment. Shadow areas and perceptible glare points can thus be avoided.
