Loft Conversion in Vienna

In this extension for an advertising agency, the architects used thick PVC sheeting (like that found in cold stores) as a means of dividing space. The individual strips are fixed to the floor and ceiling with steel angles and are simply lapped at the edges and connected with bolts and wing nuts. Sections of the sheeting were attached to pivoting metal arms to form doors. This transparent type of construction, which provides little sound insulation, fits in well with the spatial concept: the individual working areas, divided by glass elements to provide a degree of privacy, were not meant to be sealed off entirely from each other. The long counter element provides an open meeting place for members of the staff.
