London bombings memorial
Architect Carmody Groarke presented its design for the memorial to the London bombings on July 7th 2005.
Fifty-two steel posts, each three metres tall, will be erected in the south-east of Hyde Park to the remembrance of the fifty-two people killed in the attacks on the capital's transport network three years ago. The pillars will be grouped in four interlinking clusters to reflect the four attacks on three trains and a bus. A plaque with the names of the victims will be placed in the grass banks at the edge of the memorial.

Initial plans had been for a memorial in Tavistock Square, site of one of the attacks. But, after further consultation, Hyde Park has been chosen because of its prominence, history and central London location.
The design of the memorial is collaboration of architect Carmody Groarke with Arup Engeneers, artist Antony Gormley and landscape architect Colvin& Moggridge. The ambition of the design team was not to create a stereotypical memorial. An important attribute is to experience the memorial as an ensemble from single elements.
The building work for the one million pound project starts in autumn 2008. The opening is planned on July 7th 2009.
