Marine lamps: Kurage by Luca Nichetto & Oki Sato

They look pitiful washed up on the beach, but when jellyfish glow faintly and dance in the ocean, they are fascinating creatures. This lightness of aquatic being was the inspiration for these delicate, elegant table lamps.
Italian and Japanese design philosophies came together to develop Kurage for Forscarini. The table lamp is a joint effort on the part of Luca Nichetto and Nendo, Oki Sato (Nendo). Kurage is the Japanese word for jellyfish - and that is what this lamp resembles. Four slender legs made of untreated ashwood support the shade, which is made of Japanese washi paper. This paper is produced in a complex traditional process using the fibres of the mulberry tree. Smooth on one side and slightly rough and textured on the other, the paper shade ensures that the lamp radiates a soft, warm light. Kurage is available in three sizes.
