The Latin American Tower – for many years the tallest in Mexico and South America - looks set to have a new companion on the skyline of Mexico City. Richard Meier & Partners have recently unveiled the Mitikah Tower which has been inspired by a modern interpretation of Aztec forms.
The tower appears elegant at 34 stories and is set above a transparent and translucent base. The south and east façades contain folds that are intended to give a distinct sculptural impression to the building. There is a sky garden proposed for level 19, with a restaurant and bar on level 34. The remainder is intended for office use. All façades have floor to ceiling glazing giving commanding views of the city. Environmental performance is enhanced with the extensive use of fritting to the low-E glass. The building is expected to be LEED-certified when it is complete in 2014.
