The Role of Furniture in Architecture

Vinhuset is a reception and wellness centre located at the Ästad Vingård winery in Sweden. The building was developed by Norm Architects from an existing structure and integrated into the ensemble comprising the ÄNG restaurant and the Sjöparken retreat. The building plays a functional mediating role within the complex.

The furniture was designed specifically for the Karimoku Case. It conforms to the spatial conditions and forms an integral part of the architectural organisation. The furniture is used to define different areas without creating separate spaces. 

Seating furniture is proportioned and height-adjusted to match the horizontal effect of the room. Closed volumes and restrained contours reduce visual presence. Textile surfaces take on a balancing function between the body and mineral and wooden components.

The tables and occasional furniture are designed to be compact with a clear geometric form. The choice of solid wood cross-sections gives them a stable presence and establishes their position in the space. They have no decorative function. NG
