Mobile Kitchen
In the course of the rehabilitation of a 1920s terrace house, a tight sequence of rooms on the ground floor was opened up to create a large general space. It has no predetermined layout, and there are no fixed furnishings. The spatial definition is left to the users. Kitchen elements on rollers can be moved to various positions and quickly installed according to needs. Markings on the parquet flooring denote the possible locations of the industrially manufactured stainless-steel mobile units. The markings also indicate the scope for variation within the system – without it becoming arbitrary. The flexible layout and functional working of the kitchen are guaranteed by service boxes with coloured plastic-sheet covers and by lighting fittings in ceiling tracks.
