Models made easy: Arckit by Damien Murtagh
Lego inspired the development of this new aid for architects that will save cumbersome tinkering and gluing when constructing models.
It is simple, yet revolutionary – and has been distinguished with a Red Dot Design Award. Arckit is the brainchild of British designer Damien Murtagh. As with Lego, the pieces can be attached and detached; the 3-D building blocks of ABS plastic remain stable without glue.
Murtagh designed Arckit expressly for professional architects, for clients usually want to see an actual model of their future building instead of a computer-generated visualization. The enthusiastic response to Murtagh’s product means that special versions for children will soon be available.
Arckit comes in kits with with various numbers of blocks. The complementary tool known as Arcitexture can be used to prepare the models for display in diverse materialities and colours.
