Modular House in Olching

This prototype structure, providing a simple shelter against the weather, was built on a garden site near Munich. The components of the prefabricated modular construction system are designed for low-cost serial production. The structure consists of a timber post-and-beam skeleton frame laid out to a 2.50-metre grid, with infill elements to the floor, walls and roof. It can be easily assembled and dismantled and is horizontally extendable. The prototype comprises four modules laid out to a square plan. One module is an enclosed, insulated volume, heated by solar radiation through the translucent roof. Two bays are covered open spaces; while the fourth module is built around an apple tree, the crown of which forms a natural canopy.
