Montblanc Haus by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos

Spanish architects Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano are to build the Montblanc Haus. There will be a new architectural trademark in the city of Hamburg, located on the grounds of the Montblanc production halls in the district of Altona. Last year Nieto Sobejano, whose office is known for its many museum buildings, emerged as the victor in an international competition. Other participants in the competition included architects such as John Pawson and the Norwegian studio Snøhetta.

The museum and visitor centre are slated to open in 2020. The building devoted to the traditional manufacturer of writing tools will celebrate the culture of writing. Over an area of 3,660 m², Montblanc’s iconic writing tools will be presented as homage to the craft of writing. The design foresees a linear volume, about 100 metres long and covered with a closed façade. For the shape of the building, the architects were inspired by the black case of a Montblanc fountain pen. Inside the building, three levels will be grouped around a central foyer. The texture of the museum’s main façade will resemble the massif that gives the brand its name.
