Mororó House by Studio mk27

This dwelling came about in a dense pine wood, about 180 km away from São Paulo. The Mororó House by Studio mk27 is characterised by a clear form language in which curlicues and playful edges and angles have no place. Divided into two, the dominant long slab consists of a 15 m-long glazed section that accommodates an interior pool and sauna, on which a more closed, 50 m-long volume follows, solely interrupted by openings extending to the floor and closed with sliding doors. Wood is the predominant material used in the interior finishing work, and extends from the ceiling to the walls and in part to the furniture. Slate has been deployed for the floor and contrasts with the building's rectilinear austerity. The long corridor that links the individual living spaces is a particularly striking feature. The generously-sized kitchen area can be divided off from the rest of the living quarters with sliding doors. The design of the building had to fulfil the requirement for a cheap and fast construction process, explaining why a choice was made of a metal frame, steel frame walls and steel-glass construction.
