Motorway Service Area near Affoltern am Albis

At Affoltern am Albis, a bold bridge structure forms a landmark that is visible from afar. Since no suitable site was designated for this along the Swiss autobahn, the structure was built over the four-lane motorway in a large-scale yet succinct form. An outer facade layer of perforated sheet-aluminium trapezoidal sections encloses the interior in a fine gauze-like veil. At top-floor level, a structure containing the restaurant projects from the outer skin in an oriel-like form. On the floors below are a cafe and introverted shopping spaces.
