Municipal power centre

Architects: Henning Larsen Architects The merger with five other municipalities provided the stimulus for the Danish town of Viborg to develop a new town hall on a former barracks site close to the town centre. The 19,400-m² new build accommodates all 900 employees of the city administration. On the ground floor, three wings with planted roofs extend out into the surrounding landscape. A fourth, in plan almost square-shaped structure is raised above them. The town hall is one of the first office buildings to comply with the Danish Low Energy Class 1, which means that its total primary energy demand for heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting is below 50 kWh/m2a.
