Museum in Kanazawa

Set in the middle of a small park in the centre of Kanazawa, this attractive, circular, pavilion-like museum is accessible – physically and visually – from all sides. Public uses are laid out along the fully glazed outer face, while the exhibition areas are situated in the interior. They are scattered over a number galleries with different layouts, which are surrounded by access zones and interspersed with courtyards. The steel structure within the walls of the individual volumes bears most of the loads and also provides bracing. In the foyers, the load-bearing elements are reduced to a minimum and consist of extremely slender, white-painted round steel columns.
