The Flowerbed Hotel, a design proposal by MVRDV, is to be located within a large greenhouse in Aalsmeer, Netherlands. The Rotterdam-based architecture office MVRDV announced via the developer Kloos2 their proposal to build a flower-covered hotel inside a large-scale greenhouse in Aalsmeer, in the outskirts of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The 19.500m2 hotel and conference center will be located on a site next to the future Bloomin’ Holland flower dedicated theme park and business center. It is to be structured in several stacked volumes that are programmed with 280 hotel rooms, a fitness studio and a business conference center.

Sun collectors, windmills and underground warm and cool storage will supply the hotel with energy and heating - resulting in an excellent energy performance despite the building’s glass hood. The image that MVRDV wants to evoke with the form of the Flowerbed Hotel Aalsmeer: “A series of flower crates stacked inside a green house”.
