As part of its collection exploring mythology and design, the Pompidou has recently acquired "Leviathan", a piece designed by
Neri Oxman working in collaboration with Craig Carter and Joe Hicklin.
Leviathan, is a mythical creature that features several times in the Book of Job, where some of its physical characteristics are described. It is these descriptions that were used as inspiration to create this piece of the same name, conceived as flexible body armour for the human torso.
It appears that the curators of the Pompidou collection regard design and mythology as media for storytelling that are able to represent cultural truths, and therefore are seen as language describing human culture.
The piece was created using generative techniques and has been printed using two colours of material.
