New Beverage Trend: Cold-Brewed is Healthier

You put the kettle on, then pour the boiling water over tea or coffee in order to prepare a drink in just minutes – those days are over, at least in part. More and more hip coffee bars are offering cold-drip or cold-brew variations on our java. The same can be said for tea.  The Chinese design agency Nova, which is based in Shanghai, has even developed a device to fit this trend: the Cold-Brewer Capsule, which has won the 2015 iF Award. This capsule is intended primarily for the preparation of cold-brewed tea. Studies show that tea made this way contains less caffeine and more catechin. Catechins are chemicals known to promote health. The design of the Cold-Brewing Capsule simplifies tea-making in that the capsule fits perfectly onto ordinary bottles. Tea enthusiasts must only fill the capsule with tea, spices, powder or other ingredients, fit the bottle on top turn it over and wait. Actually, this method takes significantly longer compared to hot brewing. However, the capsule is practical and versatile.
