Key figures of the large-scale project “New building for Cologne employment agency”: 391 room modules and 19,500 m² total floor space, with a construction time of only eight months. The modular construction company Alho erected the administrative building on the 14,000 m² grounds of the former Butzweilerhof Airport ground in Cologne. The building was completed in December. The backbone of the building is a six-story main building with two perpendicular wings, each consisting of four to five floors. This special structure is meant to resemble a campus while providing the required floor space in the building. Due to the well thought-out ground plan all offices face outward, which means that all employees have the same working conditions. The core of the administrative building is the restaurant with a roof terrace on the top floor.
The location of the stairwells at the ends of the building enables a versatile design and subdivision of the areas. This could be especially advantageous in case the facilities are no longer used by the Cologne employment agency. The offices could then easily be reinterpreted and modified accordingly, according to Alho managing director Horst-Günter Schmidt. The company normally does not perform the additional functions of investor and lessor. However, the conditions of this project were favourable for such a constellation. The lease with the employment agency is initially for a period of 15 years.
