Office Building in Ijburg, Amsterdam

For the moment, the slender office building stands alone in Ijburg, a new district on a man-made peninsula in Amsterdam, but soon the six-storey building will be the cornerstone of an entire neighbourhood. The building’s stark facade, with its deep reveals, is consistent and rigorous on the exterior, but the interior spaces are varied. The level of the floors is offset from the reinforced-concrete frame that supports the hollow-core slabs. Thus, the column-free ground storey has a ceiling height of 4.50 m. It will soon be home to a café. The top storey provides the framework for the architects’ library and is 3 m high. In between, the concrete is discernible in the ceilings of the 4 m high, generously scaled office spaces
