Office Tower in Amsterdam

The UNStudio Tower marks the conclusion of a commercial and housing ensemble in the south of Amsterdam with six high-rise blocks between 85 and 100 m high. The facades of the new development are distinguished by horizontal banding and a vertical alignment of loggias over several storeys. The powder-coated aluminium strips over the thermally insulating glazing reduce the amount of solar heat gains by roughly 15–20 per cent. On the lower floors, these strips are replaced by horizontal fins that deflect daylight into the offices. The facade loggias – combined with small internal atria – also ensure a better exploitation of daylight in the 40 x 40 m floor plans. This in turn allowed a more flexible layout.
