On the Corner house
The On the Corner house designed by Eastern Design Office: A razor sharp structure on a extremely triangular piece of land - and that is what it shows.
The Kyoto-based architects of Eastern Design Office created the On the Corner house as a sharp and thin structure – a triangular wedge that appears to be two-dimensional when viewed at a certain angle.
The On the Corner house an apartment building located in a mixed use residential and commercial area of Youkaichi, Japan. It is situated on a triangular lot next to a parking lot that had remained vacant for some time: The lot’s shape made it undesirable to builders and the city was not interested either to allocate funds to make it a green space.
The Eastern Design Office designed the structure of new building to be out of concrete, glass, and stone in order to make it even more sharp looking than the triangular site demanded anyhow.
The On the Corner house is rental apartment complex housing seven apartments each made up of two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
The architects concept for the structure was to create a building that comes across as a surreal “present” or “toy box,” and also conveys the image of “a fictional tip of a boat (that looks) as if it were escaping from town.”
