One World - One Dream? New Buildings for the New China
Have you ever contemplated climbing to the top of the Bird’s Nest? Margita Jocham has completed a short film for those of you who will not be travelling to China but want to stay abreast of the developments there. It takes you on a tour of the Olympic construction sites in Beijing, the CCTV tower, the Centre for the Performing Arts and, finally, to Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower (overall height 468 m): at 360 m above ground, one is face to face with Jin Mao Tower (421 m), until 2007 China’s tallest building. Rising up behind it is the Shanghai World Financial Center by Kohn Pedersen Fox, which at 492 m is currently the world’s third tallest building – after Taipei 101 and Burj Dubai.
