Open-Air Art Camp: Amsterdam’s Colourful Tent City

These digs, which are made of waste products, and the other installations form part of an extraordinary open-air exhibition.
The UrbanCampsite Amsterdam event is taking place for the second time on the largely unused artificial island known as Centrumeiland. The installations, created by a wide range of designers, artists and architects, are attracting visitors to the Caribbean-look beach by the campsite. In particular, the local character of the bungalows takes centre stage: the houses show how quickly and thriftily livable space can be created. The architectural experiments demonstrate just how versatile unused urban land can be. After the exhibition, some of the sculptures will be left in place in order to draw attention to the sandy beach.
