Open Toys: Veggie fun from the 3D printer

Generally, the expression “don’t play with your food” is still true. But just this once, it is possible to make an exception – and then turn the toys into a tasty soup once we have finished playing. In autumn, children in Paris experienced that the Open Toys project is a lot of fun. At the Pop Up Gallery, they were allowed to play with vegetables and their associated add-on components. Anyone who wants to have a bit of inexpensive fun before cooking – or at other times – is advised to check out the download data for printing wings, propellers etc. These can transform aubergines, potatoes, carrots or zucchini into submarines, helicopters or even space shuttles just like that. The only thing you need, apart from the vegetables, is a 3D printer. The idea for Open Toys emerged in 2013 during a workshop at the Domaine de Boisbuchet, which was led by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola. Source: NotCot
