We throw things for all sorts of reasons, but this one is new: 36 mobile phone camera modules take exciting digital panoramic pictures – while the camera is flying overhead.
The throwable panoramic ball camera was developed as a project for a Master degree at the TU Berlin by Jonas Pfeil. Apart from the 36 camera modules (2 megapixels each), the ball camera also contains an accelerometer, which makes sure that the cameras capture images at the calculated highest point of flight. The ball itself is made with a 3D printer. The images can be downloaded to a computer using a USB port. Jonas Pfeil and his team (Kristian Hildebrand, Carsten Gremzow, Bernd Bickl and Marc Alexa) are still looking for a manufacturer to produce this exciting camera in series. Good luck!
