Passive-Energy Housing in Dornbirn

A row of nine terraced houses with a communal unit at one end has been built on the outskirts of Dornbirn in Vorarlberg, Austria. The development was erected in a dry form of construction with prefabricated timber elements. The outer walls consist of insulated timber-box units, complete with the requisite door and window openings. An amendment of the regional building laws in Vorarlberg enabled even the party walls to be constructed in timber. In-situ work included the triple glazing, the external horizontal larch cladding, the roof insulation and the gypsum-fibreboard linings to the internal walls.
