Pavilion in Zurich

Founded 20 years ago, the Dynamo cultural centre for youth provides scope for young people to engage in all kinds of design activities. The bold new metalworking pavilion articulates what was formerly an amorphous open space, while the broad cantilever of the roof creates a covered, column-free working area. The construction and cladding reflect the function: enclosed within the steel skeleton-frame structure is an insulated office box and a store. The outer skin (the facade and the underside and edge of the roof) consists of perforated metal sheeting that lends the pavilion a homogeneous appearance, screening it from sunshine by day and allowing views into the illuminated interior at night.
